The Nikiski High drama department presents “George M,” a musical comedy, on Friday and Saturday and May 4-5. Show time is 7 p.m. It is a biography of George M. Cohen and features some of his best songs like “Give my Regards to Broadway,” “Over There” and “Yankee Doodle Dandy.” Tickets on sale at the door; $5 for students, $10 for adults. How wonderful I think it is that the Nikiski High is performing music from George M. ! I had thought everyone had forgottent he music of George Cohan.
My grandfather, Billy Carola, was a musician, singer, and peformer in the 1930's and married to Helen Cohan, George's daughter.
I grew up singing George M's songs in school and at home.
It does disappoint me to see that George M's last name is spelled incorrectly in the caption. Cohan is spelled with an "a" and not an "e".
