Strut Your Mutt at North Pen Rec


Attention all dog lovers: North Peninsula Recreation Service Area’s sixth annual Strut Your Mutt Howl’oween Dog Costume Contest is scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center. Dogs must be people and dog friendly and on a leash at all times.

Carnival time at Mountain View

The annual Mountain View Elementary School carnival will be on Friday from 5-8 p.m. and is open to the public. All funds earned will go towards student field trips or student activities, such as artists in schools, for all students. Proceeds may also be used for grade level equipment and supplies. There will be lots of food, games and prizes! Tickets are 25 cents each and most games cost 2-4 tickets to play. The school is on Swires Road in Kenai.

Grace Lutheran plans Oktoberfest

Grace Lutheran Church plans an Oktoberfest celebration Friday from 6-8 p.m. Enjoy crafts and games, contests and prizes. Have a brat or a cup of soup and wash it down in the root beer garden. Soldotna church readies for Octoberfest

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church will host their 8th annual Octoberfest gathering on Friday and Saturday at 222 West Redoubt Avenue, Soldotna. On Oct. 26, a carnival with games and concessions available will be at the Redemptorist Center from 5-9 p.m.; on Saturday, the hours are 1-4 p.m. Quilt Bingo will take place at O’Neill Hall on Oct. 26, doors open at 6 p.m. with concessions and Bingo for a wide variety of homemade quilts from 6:30-9 p.m. Concessions are available there, also. For more information, call Pat at 262-7801.

Kenai Eagles ready for Halloween

The Kenai Eagles Aerie and Auxiliary has planned their annual children’s Halloween party at the Kenai lodge from noon-2 p.m. on Saturday. Parents and children to age 10 are welcome.

Boys and Girls Club Trunk or Treat on Saturday

The Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula will host its annual Trunk or Treat event Saturday from 4-6 p.m. in front of its Kenai clubhouse on Frontage Road. For more information, call 283-2682.

Star of the North plans carnival

The public is invited to attend Star of the North Lutheran’s Harvest Festival on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. There will be fun for all ages including apple bobbing, bean bag toss, balloon dart toss, cupcake walk and more. Pastor Corbie Cross will have a presentation on activities at Star of the North.

Spook Night at Tsalteshi Trails

Tsalteshi Trails (located behind Skyview High School) will hold its second annual Spook Night on Sunday. Registration will be on-line or from 4-5 p.m. Sunday. The event will include a trick-or-treat trail for kids 10 and under at 5 p.m., a Zombie 5-kilometer run at 5:30 p.m. and costume contests for kids, adults and dogs at 5:15 p.m. For more information, visit www.tsalteshi.org.

Elks Lodge plans Spooktacular

The Kenai Elks Lodge No. 2425 will be hosting a spooktacular Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. The event is for ages 1 to 12. The event includes games, prizes, food, and a costume contest.

Trunk or Treat at Lighthouse

Lighthouse Community Church, Mile 25 Kenai Spur Highway in Nikiski, will host a Trunk or Treat from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The parking lot will be lined with decorated parked cars. Children go trunk to trunk in their costumes to collect their treats. This is a free event in a safe environment. Organizers want everyone to have fun so please use your creativity and dress up in your best un-scary costume. For more information, call the church office at 776-5454.

Fear Not Festival at Birch Ridge Community Church

Birch Ridge Community Church on Echo Lake Road in Soldotna will host a Fear Not Festival, a free kids community event, from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday. Kids are invited to wear non-scary costumes. The festival will include games and prizes, music, face painting, pictures, candy and popcorn, a cakewalk and balloons. For more information, call 260-6705.

Candy Land at Kenai Christian Church

A Candy Land trunk or treat event is planned for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kenai Christian Church, on the corner of McKinley and First Avenue in Kenai. The event will include shows by the Everlasting Arms puppeteers. Hot dogs and hot drinks will be served.
