First Thursday

■ The Kenai Fine Arts Center will host a First Thursday Reception from 6-8 p.m. to celebrate the artists who are participating in the Trienniel Experimental Exhibit, which will be created and displayed outside in the Kenai Historical Cabins yard and will feature ice as the medium.

Events and Exhibits

■ The Cottonwood Gallery on the second floor of the Peninsula Community Health Services building in Soldotna will hosts an exhibit of work by members of the Kenai Peninsula Photographers’ Guild. Work will be on display through January.

■ An artists’ reception for a three-person invitational, “Up and Coming,” will take place at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center Friday from 6-8 p.m. The exhibit features the work of Joel Isaak, Ben Hastings and Claire Rowley and will be on display through Feb. 15.

■ The Peninsula Art Guild and the Kenai River Council on the Arts are offering a series of Mini Art Workshops throughout Janauary at the Kenai Fine Arts Center in Old Town Kenai. Check the website, kenaifinearts.com, for the schedule, or call Joyce, 260-5996, for details and to pre-register. The center will be closed for the month of January except for announced events and workshops.

Entertainment

■ An all acoustic jam takes place at the Kenai Senior Center from 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursdays.

■ Veronica’s in Old Town Kenai has open mic Friday at 6:30 p.m. and live music with Barb Anderson and Lee Johnson Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

■ Odie’s Deli in Soldotna has live music Friday by Kelsey Shields from 6-8 p.m. and Pub Quiz night every Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.

■ The Studio Espresso Shop at Spur Highway and Nikiski Avenue in Nikiski hosts an open mic night on Saturdays starting at 7 p.m. Call 776-7655.

■ St. Elias Brewing Company has live music Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m.

■ AMVETS Post 4 in the Red Diamond Center holds steel-tip darts at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays; steak dinner from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday; and karaoke at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

■ The Bow bar in Kenai has karaoke at 9 p.m. Thursdays and live music Fridays and Saturdays at 10 p.m.

■ Hooligans Saloon in Soldotna has poker Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 5:30 p.m. and live music Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

■ The Duck Inn on Kalifornsky Beach Road has karaoke at 9 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.

■ Mykel’s in Soldotna has live music by Bob Ramponi from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

■ Caribou Family Restaurant in Soldotna has live music by Wally Hyde 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fridays and 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturdays.

■ Main Street Tap and Grill has Wednesday karaoke with Mark Gage, Thursday live music with Dave and Keeley Boyle and 7 Days to Noon, live music on Friday and Saturday night with 9-Spine, Sunday NFL Ticket, and Monday Night Football.

Down the Road

■ The Pratt Museum in Homer will closed for January. For more information and a schedule of events, visit www.prattmuseum.org.
