■ Two exhibitions open Friday at the Kenai Fine Arts Center, 816 Cook Avenue in Old Town Kenai: “(Mostly) Shallow Art” by Joe Kashi; and “Precious Cargo: A Year in Ar(k)etypical Assemblage” by Kathryn Zerbe. The opening is from 6-8 p.m. with refreshments. Art Center hours are noon-5 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.
■ The Funny River Festival, July 12-14, will include a kids lip-synch contest and a kids kite-flying contest. Check-in for each contest is at noon July 13. Both events include cash prizes. For the lip-synch contest, bring music and a costume to the festival. For the kite-flying contest, participants should build a kite and bring it to the festival. ■ An all acoustic jam takes place every Thursday. The jam is as Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna on the first Thursday of the month, and at the Kenai Senior Center during the rest if the month. Jam starts at 6:30 p.m.
