■ The Madison String Quartet & Friends have a performance at the Soldotna Methodist Church Aug. 2 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 general, $12 senior/youth/member. Tickets available at River City Books in Soldotna and the Homer Bookstore.

■ The Madison String Quartet “Strings at Sunset” performance in Seldovia is Aug. 4 at 6:30 p.m. Ticket includes a ride on the fast ferry, fine food, drinks, and a classical music concert. Cost is $85 per person. Tickets available at River City Books in Soldotna and the Homer Bookstore.

■ The Kenai Peninsula Orchestra’s gala concerts will take place on Aug. 9 in the Homer Mariner Theater in Homer, and Aug. 10 at the Renee C. Henderson auditorium in Kenai. Both concerts are at 7:30 p.m. Works include the William Tell Overture, an aria from Tosca, Grie’s Peer Gynt Suite no. 1, and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5.



■ An all acoustic jam takes place every Thursday. The jam is as Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna on the first Thursday of the month, and at the Kenai Senior Center during the rest if the month. Jam starts at 6:30 p.m.

■ Singer-songwriter Hurricane Dave will be performing on the Kenai Peninsula Aug. 2-3. Performances will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 2, in Soldotna at the Diamond M Ranch Resort’s Friday night bonfire, and Aug. 3 at Salmonstock in Ninilchik at 12:25 p.m., and Veronica’s Café in Kenai from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

■ Sackett’s Restaurant presents live music by Mike Morgan and Friends on August 6, 7 and 13, 14, from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m.

■ St. Elias Brewing Co. presents live music by Mike Morgan and Friends on August 1, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

■ Veronica’s in Old Town Kenai has open mic Friday at 6:30 p.m. and live music with Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

■ Odie’s Deli in Soldotna has live music Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Pub Quiz night every Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.

■ The Studio Espresso Shop at Spur Highway and Nikiski Avenue in Nikiski hosts an open mic night on Saturdays starting at 7 p.m. Call 776-7655.

■ AMVETS Post 4 in the Red Diamond Center holds steel-tip darts at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays; steak dinner from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday; and karaoke at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Markets, Fairs and Bazaars

■ Kenai’s Saturday Market runs Saturdays through Sept. 14. The market is held at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center, 11471 Kenai Spur Highway from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information call 283-1991.

■ Farmers Fresh Market is open to the public on Tuesdays, 3-6 p.m. into September. Farmers Fresh Market specializes in local produce and benefits the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. The market is located on Community College Drive in the Food Bank parking lot. For information, call Bonnie at 262-3111.

■ The Central Kenai Peninsula Farmer’s Market features Grown in Alaska and Made in Alaska products, is open on Saturdays until September 28. ■ A Flea Market will be held in the Sterling Senior Center parking lot 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. Vendors may rent an outdoor space that comes with one table for $10.
