First Thursday events
■ The Kenai Peninsula Photographers Guild will have a photograph display through November at the Cotton wood Gallery, on the second floor of the Peninsula Community Health Services building at 230 East Marydale. A reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. today.
■ The Soldotna Animal Hospital will host an Alaskan themed photo exhibit featuring Tricia Joy Sadler in the up-stairs gallery during September. A First Thursday reception will be held today from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
■ A First Thursday event for artist Marion Nelson will be held at Veronica’s Coffee House in Old Town Kenai today at 6 p.m. Nelson’s art show of Encaustic (hot wax) and cold wax art works will be on display through Sept.
Events and Exhibits
■ Triumvirate Theatre is holding open auditions for an original comedy play written by Joe Rizzo and directed by Jenny Neyman, to be performed Sept. 21 as part of a fundraiser event. Auditions will be held at 6 p.m. today, at Triumvirate Theatre in the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna. No need to prepare any material, just come ready to read. There are eight roles for males and females, ages older teen to adult. Limited time commitment, but must be able to rehearse weekday evenings in Soldotna. ■ The Paint and Pen the Kenai community mural project is on display at the Kenai Visitor and Cultural Center. For more information call 283-1991.
■ An all acoustic jam takes place every Thursday. The jam is as Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna on the first Thursday of the month, and at the Kenai Senior Center during the rest of the month. Jam starts at 6:30 p.m.
■ Sackett’s Restaurant in Cooper Landing presents live music by Mike Morgan and Friends tonight from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m.
■ Veronica’s in Old Town Kenai has open mic Friday at 6:30 p.m. and live music with Charmers Daughters Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
■ Odie’s Deli in Soldotna has live music Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Pub Quiz night every Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.
■ The Studio Espresso Shop at Spur Highway and Nikiski Avenue in Nikiski hosts an open mic night on Saturdays starting at 7 p.m. Call 776-7655.

Markets, Fairs and Bazaars
■ Kenai’s Saturday Market runs Saturdays through Sept. 14. The market is held at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center, 11471 Kenai Spur Highway from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information call 283-1991.

■ The Central Kenai Peninsula Farmer’s Market features Grown in Alaska and Made in Alaska products as well as baked goods, jams, jellies and holiday gifts, will close on September 28.
