■ An opening reception for the art exhibit at the New Kenai Behavioral Health office for Peninsula Community Health Services will be held today from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at 805 Frontage Road in Kenai. For more information, call (907) 260-7300.

■ An opening reception for “Emmanuel,” a group show of spiritually-inspired art and the 2013 Kids Group Show will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kenai Fine Arts Center.

■ Rick Cupp will be displaying composite photographs through Saturday at the Ed Jones building in Kenai on Trading Bay Road, at the back of the Home Decor building.


■ An Evening of Christmas, featuring the Redoubt Chamber Orchestra, will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 13. at the Kenai Christian Church. Holiday favorites will be performed, with audience sing alongs throughout the concert. The Central Peninsula Community Orchestra will also perform, along with instrumental and vocal solos and ensembles. Tickets are $10 for individuals, $5 for youths 12 and under and $25 for families, available at the door.

■ At noon on Dec. 23, the Kenai Community Library will host a Local Artist Showcase featuring dancers from Peninsula Artists in Motion.

■ The Klimpke’s Christmas Lights Display will be turned on Saturday from 5 to 10:30 pm. through Jan. 1 in Nikiski. The lights display is located off of Miller Loop, fourth driveway on Blueberry Ave.

Events and Exhibits

C Cups Cafe and Already Read Books in Kenai will feature International Designer and Artist Letitia Hutchings with her original Christmas Quilts from Mount Redoubt Designs. The quilts are available for viewing and purchasing Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

■ An all acoustic jam takes place every Thursday. The jam is as Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna on the first Thursday of the month, and at the Kenai Senior Center during the rest of the month. Jam starts at 6:30 p.m.

■ Veronica’s in Old Town Kenai has open mic Friday at 6:30 p.m. and live music by The Charmer’s Daughter on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

■ Odie’s Deli in Soldotna has live music Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Pub Quiz night every Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.

■ The Vagabond on Kalifornsky Beach Road will have live music with 150 Grit Saturday at 9 p.m.

■ The Studio Espresso Shop at Spur Highway and Nikiski Avenue in Nikiski hosts an open mic night on Saturdays starting at 7 p.m. Call 776-7655.

■ AMVETS Post 4 in the Red Diamond Center holds steel-tip darts at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays; steak dinner from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday; and karaoke at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

■ The Bow bar in Kenai has karaoke at 9 p.m. Thursdays and live music Fridays and Saturdays at 10 p.m.

■ Tustumena Lodge will feature the music of The 907 Band Friday and Saturday 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. An open mic night will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 28 with a $100 prize for the best original song, admission is $10.

■ Hooligans Saloon in Soldotna has poker Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 5:30 p.m. and live music Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

■ The Duck Inn on Kalifornsky Beach Road has karaoke at 9 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.

■ Mykel’s in Soldotna has live music Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. Robb Justice, and Fridays from 6:30-9:30 p.m. with Bob Ramponi and Dave Unruh.

■ Caribou Family Restaurant in Soldotna has live music by Roy Mullin, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fridays and 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturdays.

■ The Duck Inn will have live music from 7 to 10 p.m. every Wednesday with Robb Justice and Trio.

■ Main Street Tap and Grill has Wednesday karaoke with KJ Natalia, Thursday acoustic music with Dustin and Friends and Keeley & Nelson, and live music and dancing with 9Spine Friday and Saturday.

Markets, Fairs and Bazaars

■ A Christmas Bazaar, hosted by the Holy Assumption of the Virgin Mary Russian Orthodox Church, will be held from 9 a.m. to p.m. Friday at Fort Kenay, across the Russian Orthodox Church in Old Town Kenai. The bazaar will feature many handcrafted items including Russian toys, ornaments, jewelry, shawls and more. Fry bread will be available on Friday. For more information, call 907-690-0136.

■ The 2013 Annual Art Extravaganza, sponsored by the Art Students League, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 7 at Kenai Peninsula College. Admission is $5 per person or $10 for family. Raffle tickets for an aerial photograph printed on aluminum by Jayne Jones are available at the KPC bookstore for $5 or five for $20.

■ The Kenai Peninsula Fair will host a Christmas Bazaar at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 14 at the Ninilchik Fairgrounds. More than 40 vendors will display their wares. To reserve a space or for more information, call (907) 567-3670.
