2 cups water

3 quarts cold water

2 cups granulated sugar

8 regular size tea bags

In a medium saucepan, heat 2 cups water with sugar and bring to a boil; boil for 5 minutes. Remove saucepan from heat, and steep tea bags in sugar/water mixture for 5 minutes. Remove tea bags and allow mixture to cool slightly before pouring into a gallon-size pitcher. Add three quarts cold water to the pitcher. Allow tea to come to room temperature before chilling in refrigerator. To serve, pour chilled tea into iced-filled glasses. Makes about one gallon.

• Allow brewed tea to cool to room temperature before placing in refrigerator. Tea that is cooled too quickly will become cloudy.

• Never add ice to hot tea. Add ice to drinking glass and pour chilled brewed sweet tea over the ice cubes.

• To avoid diluting iced tea, ice cubes can be made from brewed sweet tea.
