Cruelty toward animals raises concerns 

Recently a couple of events happened that compelled me to write. First was the horrifying article in another paper about a puppy whose throat was slit and tossed in a snow bank. The other was a friend who rescued an emaciated, neglected dog from the side of the Spur whose leg had been broken ... most likely from abuse. I am an animal adorer. As I hear more and more about the statistics of domestic violence and the especially high rate in Alaska, I am increasingly saddened by the heartbreaking liklihood that women and children are not the only ones suffering.
