Going to a Steven Spielberg movie anymore comes with certain expectations. Either you're going to get something fantastical and fun and silly, like "Tintin" or "Indiana Jones," or something serious like "Saving Private Ryan" or "Schindler's List." There's not a lot of in between with this guy, it seems -- either he's trying to knock the ball out of the park for the critics, or he's hitting a solid line drive right for the crowd.

OK -- briefly, there I was on the 3D bandwagon. "Hugo" was a good experience for me, and I guess I thought maybe that because the next movie I was to see was a.) Animated, and b.) directed by Steven Spielberg, the 3D would be a plus rather than a minus.

Was anyone else a little dubious when they heard that Martin Scorsese was directing a magical 3-D family-friendly tale about a little boy living in a Paris train station in the 1920s? Unless the titular Hugo was on the run from the mob, or perhaps working as a double agent in the Police Nationale, this seems more like a movie you might get from Spielberg or a pre-wierdo motion capture Robert Zemeckis.

This week was one I'd been looking forward to. Like anyone of my generation (and most others, I'd imagine) I am a huge fan of the Muppets. I grew up watching the show, then the movies, as well as all the ancillary Muppet media, including a little show you might have heard of called "Sesame Street." The Muppets are awesome.
