By government estimates, Alaskans are sitting on trillions of feet of natural gas. Yet, on a recent local news broadcast local power companies warned that increased customer costs are just around the corner. Why? Because available gas is decreasing and it will become necessary to purchase LNG from outside sources to meet the demand.

A couple of years ago I requested to be on the distribution list for Representative Les Gara's newsletter. I did this because a friend forwarded one to me and I found his opinions enlightening.

I was disheartened to read about Herb Stettler's home fire a couple of days ago. I have known Herb for several years through my association with The American Legion. A few years back Herb was submitted for and was selected as the Legionnaire of the Year for Alaska. I understand he won a similar award from the VFW. These awards were for his commitment to veterans, their well-being, and his support for local veterans' issues. There's a lot of competition for these awards and being selected is an honor.

As a member of The American Legion, I always like to see good PR articles about the Legion in the local newspapers. The one this morning about Santa visiting Kenai's Legion Post for the childrens' party was heartwarming, to a point.

In the article it states that that behind Santa "... clanked the glasses of the Kenai American Legion's beer drinkers and cigarette smokers."
