Dear Readers: I know I promised the continued saga of moving from Poudre Canyon to the pink log house on Summit View but with Thanksgiving two weeks away Susan suggested I share some of my mom’s Thanksgiving recipes and stories about how she worked for two weeks before Thanksgiving to put out a wonderful large and bountiful dinner, fit for the King and Queen. I will continue the Pink Log house story Nov 28.

I fixed up the little cabin perched on the side of the mountain to be rented. Within a week I had a renter, a young man that promised he could help around the yard, split wood and help fix up the other two-room building that sat next to the highway. In early years it was an apple, cherry and plum cider stand that also sold jellies and souvenirs. It had a cement floor and some of the logs needed to be repaired. Whenever I asked the young man to help me he seemed to have something else to do. Or if I knocked on his door, he did not answer. I always had a feeling he was inside.

In my other life a long long time ago, I rescued a little kitty from a couple of jerks setting at a bar in Kenai. I took that little kitty home and fed him baby formula with an eye dropper. He thrived and became a fat little fur ball. Susan and her family lived here at the time and her boys wanted a little kitty so they adopted him. They named him Romeo. Porter was transferred to Fairbanks and they moved all of their belongings plus a doggie and a kitty. It was a tearful goodbye and for the next 12 years they lived in Fairbanks.
