Have you ever thought of eating as an indoor sport? Cooking may as well be my indoor sport! I don't play ping-pong, basketball, billiards, or poker, so if I have to choose an indoor sport it would be cooking and eating! I am constantly looking for different ways to fix an old standby -- or a new recipe that I do not have all the ingredients for. I usually have most things on hand with the exception of one ingredient, and usually I can find something in my cupboard as a substitute. The one thing I am never without is the potato.

Our time on Daniels Lake came to an end. We moved to Mallard Park, near Unocal, for a short period of time, before going on to Eagle River to start a new business and a brand-new way of life.

The kids' experience on Daniels Lake, learning to ski, skate and snowmachine, continued while they were in school in Eagle River and high school in Chugiak.

Chapter One

We moved from a cold, cold large trailer house in a trailer court behind M and M Market, in North Kenai, (now Nikiski) where the bed sheets and blankets froze to the outer walls, and the windows and doors froze shut each night, to a house on Daniels Lake in January of 1969.

Saunas are for the young, old, daring and the bored in the middle of the winter. It feels so good to get warm in zero and below temperatures, with 10 to 12 feet of snow and more slowly falling out of the sky. It's time to fire up the sauna. In our case in our younger years, we had a sauna cabin that had to be fired up (Bob's job) about two hours before you could shed all our clothes and enter into the steaming good smelling cedar room. There was a small one-man Jacuzzi tub in the corner.
