WASILLA - The Skyview Panthers hit Veterans Memorial Field hungry to make a statement.

Consider the message received.

Sparked by a pair of Albert White touchdown grabs in the first quarter, Skyview stunned the Wasilla Warriors 32-20 in Wasilla Saturday afternoon.

"We have high expectations," Skyview head coach Eric Pomerleau said after the win. "It's good to show up and get it done in the first game."

White snagged the two Jordan Jones touchdown passes and finished with six catches for 121 yards. Jones completed 9 of 19 for 173 and two scores.

PALMER - Early Sunday evening, the Peninsula Oilers looked ready to cruise to an easy victory. But the Oilers needed Reese McGraw's five-out save to hold onto a 7-5 win over the Mat-Su Miners at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.

The first-place Oilers jumped to a 5-0 lead and held a 7-1 advantage in the fourth, but needed to kill a Mat-Su rally to pad their Alaska Baseball League lead.

CHUGIAK -- When Wasilla was pushed backward into the consolation side of the bracket with a quarterfinal loss to Chugiak, the Warriors fixed their sights on a new set of goals.

There's finishing in fourth place. But maybe even more important than that was the chance to get the best of Soldotna.

And on Friday, the Warriors finally shot down the Stars.
