A small group of English honors students chatted while Kenai police officer Alex Prins prepared a digital media presentation. Prins started with a primer on Facebook, a familiar pastime for high school students.

He asked the class about information they’ve given out freely to websites. He asked if anyone read Facebook’s privacy agreement. As for actual privacy of information on the website, “I promise you there is none,” Prins said.

The officer is Kenai’s school resource officer, and he spends his workdays at the city’s schools.

Kenai police officers on Saturday arrested a Kenai man who was wanted on an Alaska State Troopers warrant for sexual assault of a minor.

At 5:27 p.m., the Kenai Police Department was advised of the outstanding arrest warrant for Sheldon D. Howard; he was believed to be in the Kenai area, according to a trooper dispatch.

The 42-year-old Kenai resident is being charged with eight counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor, according the dispatch.

Kenai Peninsula firefighters extinguished a residential fire south of Soldotna on Tuesday. A wood stove insert malfunctioned, causing the fire.

No one was injured as a result of the fire.

At 1:15 p.m., Central Emergency Services responded to the report of a chimney fire in Kasilof. The first responders arrived within six minutes; they reported smoke pouring out of the home’s eaves and attic spaces, according to a CES press release.

Fire fighters confirmed the home’s two occupants were out of the house and uninjured, according to the release.

Scene of the Crash has a permanent home in Nikiski, and the reindeer is returning the generosity. Crash is helping to raise money for local organizations and issues.

The reindeer’s owner, Jenna Hansen, and other members of 4-H have organized three events with Crash.

“At our meeting, we were thinking of ways to give back to the community, and we thought why not use Crash,” Hansen said. “People love reindeer, especially during the holidays.”
