I understand Congress and the President’s Administration are considering tobacco tax increases to finance more government spending. As immediate past Executive Director of Alaska Restaurant & Retail Association I believe our leaders in Washington should find better ways to fund programs rather than taxing a select few and jeopardizing the state’s retailers.
Tobacco products make up a considerable portion of many retailers’ sales. A shortsighted tax increase on tobacco products may diminish retailers’ revenues and hinder their ability to employ others in their communities.
