As part of the Kenai River Festival, the Run for the River had runners out early Saturday morning in downtown Soldotna.
The run featured two races — a five-kilometer and a 10-mile run. The two races combined to gather 365 runners.
Heather Gaines of Kenai and Matt Bomberger of Pennsylvania took the wins in the women’s and men’s 10-mile races.
Gaines won in a time of 1 hour, 9 minutes, 51 seconds, which was 1:36 ahead of Jenny Neyman of Soldotna.

The Kenai Central baseball team lost 7-4 in the fourth-place game in the ASAA state tournament to Lathrop on Saturday at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage.

After dropping Thursday’s first-round game to Service 6-3, Kenai beat Monroe Catholic 4-2 on Friday to advance to the fourth-place matchup against the team from Fairbanks.

However, Lathrop scored a first-inning run from Braden Hall to take the lead, and while the Kards managed to take a 3-2 lead in the second inning, they weren’t prepared for the charge the Malamutes put up in the fourth inning.

The Soldotna girls softball team experienced a long day of ups and downs Friday at the ASAA state tournament in Anchorage, playing three games but ultimately dropping out of the tournament with one win and two losses. All three games were played at Cartee Fields.
The Stars began the day with a barnburner of a win, a 10-9 squeaker against Monroe Catholic from Fairbanks.

The Kenai Central boys baseball team may be out of the running for the ASAA state championship, but they still are playing after a 4-2 win Friday at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage.
Up against the Monroe Catholic Rams of Fairbanks, Kenai needed the win to continue play in the tournament, as the Kards were in the consolation bracket, having lost to Service 6-3 on Thursday.
Kenai went up 2-0 in the second inning off a double from Dallas Pierren, a line drive that allowed Miles Jones to score, and Pierren was able to score a run off a fielding error.
