When I was young walking down a street in Southern California, I heard the heavyweight championship fight through the screen doors. They took those fights away from the common people to make more money through exclusive showings.

Department of Transportation does not listen

Driving to town last Saturday on the North Cohoe Loop I saw a backhoe digging a ditch for a new culvert on a driveway approach. On my way home I saw a woman standing out in front of the driveway. I told her the culvert was not necessary because there never was water there nor would there ever be water there. The driveways on either side of her do not have culverts, so what good is hers? She said the Alaska Division of Transportation just passed a law requiring the culvert.

Cemetery caretaker asks to be set free

I have been maintianing the Kasilof-Cohoe cemetery for 50 years. I’m not looking for compliments or gratuities, I just want to be set free. It is a community cemetery, but except for one clean-up day a year the community does not help me. I’m 80 years old with no replacement in sight. If I walk out on it, it will go back to wilderness. I have not had a summer to myself in 30 years. I think I’ve earned one, plus retirement.
