Gas is once again being sold at the Short Stop after a fire took the station’s gas pumps out of commission Sunday night.

Owner Roseann Jackson said about half the pumps were up and running Tuesday afternoon. The remainder will hopefully be back on in about two weeks, she said.

A fire broke out at one of the pumps after a Ford F150 pickup knocked over one of the fueling stations about 9:30 p.m. Sunday night.

A fueling station caught fire Sunday night after it was knocked over by a truck at the Short Stop gas station.

A Ford F150 pickup turned into the gas station at the intersection of Poppy Lane and Kalifornsky Beach Road around 9:30 p.m. 

Instead of stopping just short of the fueling station, the truck slid into a support beam and then the fueling station, said Capt. Lesley Quelland, from Central Emergency Services. The pump was knocked over, and the base and surrounding  area caught on fire, Quelland said.

The Dormady clan has spent a lot of time watching four brothers play football at Kenai Central High School. Monday, they gathered at Central Peninsula Hospital where Kenny Dormady, 25, caught something a little different than a football: his first son.

“To be able to catch him and cut his umbilical cord, that was cool,” Kenny said.

Sarah Dormady, 29, gave birth to Jasper Blake Dormady at 5:23 a.m. Jan. 2. 

“I couldn’t have asked for a better experience,” Sarah said Tuesday afternoon, still at the hospital. “It was perfect.”

Kenny agreed.

Kenai’s city council made quick work of a handful of ordinances and resolutions Wednesday night.

The council approved an ordinance and a resolution that help fund and build a pedestrian bridge near Kenai’s north beach. According to the ordinance designating money to the Personal Use Fishery Improvements Capital Project Fund, the $46,000 for the bridge is coming from a state appropriation for street and sewer projects. The contract for bridge was awarded to Cornerstone Equipment Rentals, LLC, the low bidder.
