When an older person has nothing to do, but “sit and think” weird thoughts can happen. I was looking at the prize list for the Iditarod, and my imagination took over. $50,400 and a new truck to the winner Mr. Seavey, while on a sunny weekend in Florida, a golfer made about $1.5 million for 4 days of play. Now I have played sports all my life and know how difficult the game of golf is, but it does not compare to feeding and training a dog team in winter, running a team at night at 30 degrees below zero while most training for golf is in the sunshine.

My memory may be fading a little, but my first president was FDR. And over the years, I can’t think of any one of the Presidents not answering that call. But I think we may have had a disconnect with our long run of the U.S. working around the clock in emergency situations with the Benghazi attack killing 4 American patriots who felt they were in a situation of being taken care of. I know for a fact that many of our previous leaders did everything possible to assist in any situation threatening American citizens no matter where they were in the world.

The hospital group is not happy again. My first introduction to a hospital came about in the late 1930s as my oldest brother needed to have his appendix removed. This hospital was a 4 story large white house in our town. It had 4 bedrooms, operating room, office and visiting area. Nothing fancy. Then after the Second World War the town built a very nice small hospital which is still in operation and when we first came to Kenai and I told my wife that the Soldotna hospital was almost a duplicate of it except the one here was some larger.

There is not very many people today who can take their thinking minds back to the 1930s and 1940s and very likely the schools are not giving very much attention to what happened way back then. I know a few people who know the truth about those times.

My Great Grandfather immigrated to the U.S. in the mid 1850s and started a family history of Democrats. My father had 3 brothers and 2 sisters, and my mother’s side had 8 sisters and 1 brother and to my remembrance, it was always Democrat talk around our family table.
