Up by 6, I peeked out of our tent at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The sun was shining. That was good for a rain forest. Mary Green and I were finally here, in Uganda, ready to track gorillas.

Our poor safari driver. He had to deal with two animal-crazed women jumping up to take pictures of animals barely visible without binoculars — with nothing but point-and-shoot Lumix cameras.

We got to San Antonio de Areca, near Buenos Aires, by nightfall and camped in a crowded park spilling over with visitors here for Carnaval.
