There’s a moment every aviation student is ready to fly solo.

That’s the moment Dean Eichholz likes best.

“Normally, I just have them taxi over to the side, or in front of a school... you get out of the airplane and sign their logbooks and tell them to go off and do some takeoff and landings on their own,” Eichholz said. “So you don’t warn them in advance ... one day they’re ready and they go and do it and come back before they even think about (being) out there on their own.”

The walls in Tiffany Palm’s stand are covered in dry-erase board material that hold everything from inspirational messages to drink orders and inventory numbers on them.

Diana Hunter found the perfect dress for her junior prom last year. The red floor length gown, with a long trail of silver and red beaded flowers wrapping around the side, caught her eye on a rack in Meaggan Bos’ Family and Consumer Sciences Classroom last year.

So, the senior donated a dress her grandmother bought her, and took the red one.

She joined more than 250 other girls in the district in using “Cinderella’s Closet,” a program at Soldotna High School that provides free prom dresses and accessories to girls in the school district.

A bit of Brahms, some Beethoven, a piece by Max Bruch and a little Maria Theresia Von Paradis to round out the evening and a quintet of musicians will finish their inaugural concert Thursday at Kenai Peninsula College.

After practicing trios and quartets together for years, the group decided to name themselves Musica Borealis and give a chamber music concert.
