A thank-you letter to Alaskans

I can’t decide whether I am the luckiest woman in Alaska or the luckiest person in America. I have just had the best 30 days anybody could have in any place ever. I have been home.

Home in Ketchikan where people know my family well. In Metlakatla where when the planes don’t fly and you just deal with it, or ask somebody to take you to the airport in Ketchikan in their boat and they don’t think twice about doing it.

Stolen Valor Act protects veterans

Our men and women in uniform take a solemn vow to protect the country we love and to put their lives on the line in order to allow us all to possess the freedoms envied by the rest of the world. They deserve our honor, they deserve our respect, support and prayers. They do not deserve to have their service and sacrifice devalued and desecrated by impostors.

We've Got Your 6

Over the next five years, more than a million military service members will return to civilian life. In the years immediately following World War II, the successful reintegration of veterans into our communities and civilian workforce was a key factor in the remarkable post-war growth of the U.S. economy and expansion of the middle class. Our challenge is to repeat this success story. As today's veterans make the transition from fatigues to professional attire, by all means we should welcome them home as heroes.

Senator sets record straight on Congressional benefits

There's an old saying that "A lie can go around the world before the truth can get its boots on."  Advances in information technology, while mostly positive, have made this adage even more true.  Lately, much has been made across many media platforms about some myths surrounding Congressional benefits.  For the sake of clarity -- and getting the truth's boots on -- I would like to set the record straight.
