Update: The highway has been partially reopened.
The Sterling Highway has been closed at Milepost 39 due to a single-vehicle accident. Alaska State Troopers are on scene, working to reopen the highway as soon as possible.
Troopers could have a single lane thoroughfare open within an hour, said troopers’ spokesperson Megan Peters.
At 1:30 p.m., troopers received a call regarding an elderly couple who had slid into a guardrail and off the roadway, Peters said. The couple drove a Ford F150, which did not rollover as it left the roadway.
