Pros Brian Anderson and John McBride fired rounds of even-par 70 on Saturday to take the lead after the first day of the two-day Kenai Peninsula Open at Birch Ridge Golf Course.

Also in the pros category, Rich Lundahl was at 71, Rob Nelson was at 72, Hunter Blake was at 73 and Nolan Rose was at 74. Bill Engberg, Brandon Kaiser and Travis Jorgenson were at 78. Finally, Tom Walsh had an 81 and George Collum had an 85.

The Soldotna swimming and diving team won 15 of the 18 events it entered Saturday at the Colony Relays at Colony High School.

Colony, Palmer, Wasilla and Valdez also were at the meet, which featured 22 events.

"The team did a great job with a number of top times early in the season," SoHi coach Sohail Marey wrote in an email.

Marey was pleased to see freshman Alex Weeks post a split of 24.89 seconds in the 200 freestyle relay, which should put her in the top five at the state level. The Stars won the 200 freestyle relay.

The host Nikiski football team erupted for 36 points in the second quarter en route to a 48-0, nonconference victory over Sitka on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 overall and remain 1-0 in the Greatland Conference. Sitka drops to 1-1 overall.

Stephen Hartley had a monster game for the Bulldogs. His four touchdowns were the first four touchdowns of the game. They came on runs of 67, 18, 62 and 48 yards.

Hartley finished with eight carries for 201 yards, and also caught two balls for 8 yards.
