There's still time to reserve seats in KPC's unique summer programs, the Kenai Fishing Academy and the Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference. Both programs have developed strong followings, attracting repeat attendees every year.

Students interested in staying on track to complete their degree or certificate programs have an opportunity to register for fall beginning this week. The University of Alaska is emphasizing to students the importance of taking 15 credits per semester in order to complete their associate degrees within two years and bachelor degrees within four years. Along these same lines, it is vital that students are able to secure seats in required classes as they approach graduation.

Public, online registration for the summer semester opened this morning at 12:01 a.m. Current, degree-seeking students have had a week of priority registration to ensure that this group of students can secure seats in classes they need to graduate. As expected, several classes have already filled so anyone wanting to attend KPC this summer should not delay registering. The first day of classes will be May 21.

The 2012 Ripple Effect Film Series, presented by the KRC Sustainability Club, will begin at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23 in room 109 at KRC's Ward Building. The film series features thought-provoking films that explore the human connection to and impact on earth.

The first film to be shown will be "Red Gold," a documentary showing the growing unrest among Alaska Native, commercial and sport fishermen who oppose the proposed Pebble Mine as well as the thoughts of mine officials who wish to argue their case.
