ANCHORAGE (AP) — Authorities are considering drug charges against a man two Alaska State Troopers helped revive.

The 27-year-old, who hasn’t been identified, was at a Soldotna motel with his girlfriend Sunday when she called 911 after he allegedly overdosed, KTUU reported.

Troopers Thad Hamilton and Eric Olsen found the man unconscious, with foam around his mouth, when they arrived, troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen said.

They applied a sternum rub, Ipsen said.

ANCHORAGE — The executive committee of the Alaska Republican Party has removed Kasilof resident Debbie Brown as chairwoman, the second leadership change in the last three months.

Brown, formerly the vice chairwoman, became the head of the party when the executive committee removed Russ Millet in January, KTUU reported.

Peter Goldberg was elevated to party chairman during Monday night's meeting. He was elected vice chairman after Brown was made chairwoman in January.

ANCHORAGE (AP) — About 100 vehicles from police and fire departments escorted the remains of two Alaska State Trooper employees Wednesday as a federal probe was launched into the cause of the helicopter crash that killed them.

Pilot Mel Nading, 55, Trooper Tage Toll, 50, and injured snowmobiler Carl Ober, 56, died Saturday night in the crash about 10 miles east of Talkeetna. The Alaska Air National Guard spotted the wreckage Sunday morning.

ANCHORAGE — With less than 250 miles to go in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, Mitch Seavey took the lead Sunday after he was first to reach Unalakleet.

The 2004 champion was greeted by dozens of townspeople and awarded $2,500 in gold nuggets and a trophy.

Seavey pulled into Unalakleet at 10:13 a.m., only 15 minutes ahead of Aaron Burmeister. Aliy Zirkle who had been leading out Kaltag — the last checkpoint along the Yukon River — slipped to third place.
