Thoughts and musings from the Clarion's Online staff.

Social Media has really taken off in the last few years. Many websites now have a way to interact with these Social Networks, such as Facebook's ubiquitous "Like" button.

Recently, Google began a limited field trial (otherwise known as a Beta, though at this point, it's more like a pre-Beta) of their own social network, named Google Plus (Google+, or G+ for short).

Out of everything we've experienced with the new site, one of the more frustrating things is dealing with leftovers.

We didn't receive a fresh, clean website.. it was copied from the Juneau Empire's installation. Why? Because it was a working installation.

However, that meant a great deal of effort had to be made to clean out anything related to Juneau — their articles, custom configurations, and a myriad of special pages.

With the new website up and running, it's been rather hectic here in the New Media department.

The Technological Age has increased society's appetite for On-Demand Media, so it's important that we find ways to streamline our publishing process.

Many events can be planned for ahead of time... (Charging your cell phone before going on a long drive. Bringing an extra container of gasoline on a 4-wheeler trip into the hills.)

Although, no matter how well you plan things out, it's the last-minute uh-ohs that tend to be the biggest obstacles. As with most unforseen events, it usually pays off to assess the situation before making any solid decisions... (Can it be fixed? What happens if we can't fix it? What can we do in the meantime?)
