Stocks celebrates 'golden' birthday
Donovan stocks of Soldotna celebrated a "golden" birthday recently, turning 11 on Nov. 11, 2011. Donovan is the son of John Stocks and is a fifht-grader at Redoubt Elementary. He celebrated with a special trip to H2Oasis in Achorage.

Turkey Trot 5k, 10k on tap
The Tustumena 200 is holding a Turkey Trot Nov. 25 at the Kenai Visitor Center. Races start at 2 p.m. and the distances are 5-kilometers, 10-kilometers and a shorter Tot Trot. The entry fee is $20 per person. For more information go to www.tustumena200.com.

Not so Golden Globes

Meryl Streep has played many roles in her long career and holds the record for the most Academy Award nominations of any actor. Among her portrayals was British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. At the Golden Globe Awards Sunday night, Streep behaved as if she actually had been elected to high office, entitling her to mount a high horse.
