The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will meet Tuesday at noon at Froso's. "Christmas Fun Day" is planned. Lunch is $13.

"Starting a business" -- A 2 hour free "Starting a Business" seminar Tuesday, Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon, allows Bryan Zak to answer basic questions on starting a business on the Kenai Peninsula while preparing you for a productive relationship with Alaska Small Business Development Center. Realtors announce board positions, awards
Kenai Peninsula Association of Realtors met on December 8th for their annual Awards Luncheon. The new 2012 Board of Directors were installed by the visiting Alaska Association of Realtors(R) President Helen Jarratt. The KPAR 2012 are: President Les Crane; President Elect Anna Johns; Secretary/Treasurer Mary Kay Grenier; Director at Large A Ross Baxter; Director at Large B Kelly Griebel; Director at Large C Michael Winegarden; Director at Large D Marty Radvansky; Director at Large E Linda McLane; Past President Dale Bagley. The 2011 Realtor(R) of the Year Marty Radvansky was recognized. We also recognized Kachemak Board of Realtors(R), Realtor(R) of the Year Dorothy Cunningham. We awarded our Affiliate of the Year to Aaron Swanson of Residential Mortgage. We had a bake auction to raise funds for the Dave Feeken Scholarship Fund and the Realtor(R) Fund, a fund that stays in the community to help those in need. The Dave Feeken Scholarship Fund raised $1050, thanks in part to a $500 donation from Diane Melton and the Five Star Realty Group. The Realtor(R) Fund raised $1023, plus 5 -$100 gift certificates for needy families. We also collected over 75 toys for Toys for Tots. Service Star recognized
First American Title announces Laura West as the Service Star Award winner for October 2011. The award is presented on votes by her peers and clients throughout the state for repeatedly going above and beyond while performing extraordinary customer service for our internal and external customers. Laura represents the eight statewide offices in this recognition.
Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union welcomes new member
Melissa Falcone has joined the Denali Alaskan FCU staff as Marketing Officer. Falcone is responsible for Up & Coming, a program for Denali Alaskan members between the ages of 18 and 24. She is also responsible for BALANCE, a financial literacy program that provides information to help credit union members achieve their goals.
Falcone has over two years of financial industry experience. Prior to joining Denali Alaskan she was a Personal Banker at Wells Fargo Bank in Alaska.
Falcone received a BA in Public Relations and Advertising from Gonzaga University in 2009, where she was active in Public Relations Student Society of America and the Gonzaga Communication Arts Honor Society.

Conference and tradeshow on tap
The Alaska Support Industry Alliance will hold Meet Alaska, its annual energy conference and tradeshow providing Alaskans with the opportunity to learn about our resources from a global perspective. The conference will be held on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center in Anchorage.
The theme, Ride the Resource Rollercoaster will feature speakers in the areas of "The Thrill of Rising Exploration" followed by "The Plunge of Decreased Production" and "The Gravitational Pull of Federal Permitting." Featured speakers will bring their expertise in one of these areas to the podium. Presenters include: Jeff Watkins, Chairman of Coal for Wood Mackenzie; Ed Merrow, author of Industrial Mega Projects"; Marianne Kah, Chief Economist, ConocoPhillips; John Minge, President, BP Alaska; Arthur Berman, Energy Sector Consultant/Shale Gas Plays Expert and many others from the national and international resource development industry.
