Chambers set schedules
The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will meet Wednesday at noon at the Kenai Merit Inn. A presentation from Colleen Starring, vice president of Cook Inlet Natural Gas Storage, LLC is planned. Lunch is $15.


The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will meet Tuesday at noon at Froso's. A presentation about Piksik, NANA Development Corp. Alaska film incentive program is planned. Lunch is $13.

Small business seminars scheduled

"Starting a business" -- A 2 hour free "Starting a Business" seminar Tuesday, Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon, allows Bryan Zak to answer basic questions on starting a business on the Kenai Peninsula while preparing you for a productive relationship with Alaska Small Business Development Center. Come and learn about AKSBDC and our partner programs and why you should register for our free counseling services. "Marketing Your Business" -- Do you know who will buy your product? Do you know why they will? Do you know if your advertising is timed right? Learn creative and inexpensive marketing techniques that work for your business. Join us in the Red Diamond Center, Suite 12 on Jan. 10 from 12:30 to 4 p.m. and Bryan Zak will walk you through various techniques that will assist you in advertising and marketing you, your company and your service or product. "Getting started with Quickbooks 2009" -- Learn to use QuickBooks 2009 as the best  tool to collect and organize your business data so you're prepared when tax time rolls around.  4-Tuesday sessions, from 5 to 9 p.m. covers 10 chapters. Payroll and Inventory are separate classes. Fee is $185 on Tuesdays: Jan. 10, 17, 24 and ends Jan. 31 in Suite 12 at AK SBDC- Red Diamond Center. Bring a thumb drive to save lessons to practice at home. Only 10 seats available. "Profit mastery" -- On Wednesday and Thursday - Jan. 18 & 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., South West Regional Director Bryan Zak will present a 2-day, Profit Mastery Seminar here in the Red Diamond Center. Community awards banquets announced
* The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will host the Kenai Community Awards Banquet on Jan. 14 at the Kenai Visitors & Cultural Center. Cocktails will start at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and program at 7 p.m. The entertainment will be a roast of Kenai Chamber President Kyle Fisher. Tickets are $35 per person. Watershed forum sponsors training programs
The Kenai Watershed Forum is sponsoring two Alaska Certified Erosion And Sediment Control Lead (AK-CESCL) Storm Water training sessions, Feb. 6-7 in Seward, and Feb. 8-9 in Soldotna. This training explains the erosion process and how to obtain and comply with the EPA NPDES Construction General Permit. The course will describe the key elements of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan and stormwater Best Management Practices. This is a requirement for people who work on Alaska DOT roads. Other people who may need this certification include commercial and residential builders, project engineers, natural resource managers and anyone responsible for creating, maintaining or evaluating a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. Attendees will receive a certificate valid for 3 years.

Conference and tradeshow on tap
The Alaska Support Industry Alliance will hold Meet Alaska, its annual energy conference and tradeshow providing Alaskans with the opportunity to learn about our resources from a global perspective. The conference will be held on Friday, Jan. 6 at the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center in Anchorage.

The theme, Ride the Resource Rollercoaster will feature speakers in the areas of "The Thrill of Rising Exploration" followed by "The Plunge of Decreased Production" and "The Gravitational Pull of Federal Permitting." Featured speakers will bring their expertise in one of these areas to the podium. Presenters include: Jeff Watkins, Chairman of Coal for Wood Mackenzie; Ed Merrow, author of Industrial Mega Projects"; Marianne Kah, Chief Economist, ConocoPhillips; John Minge, President, BP Alaska; Arthur Berman, Energy Sector Consultant/Shale Gas Plays Expert and many others from the national and international resource development industry.
