Chambers set schedules
The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will meet Wednesday at noon at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. A presentation from Bryan Zak from the Small Business Development Center is planned. Lunch is $15.
The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will meet Tuesday at noon at Froso's. A presentation from Borough Mayor Mike Navarre is planned. Lunch is $13.

Industry Outlook Forum on tap
Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District and the Kenai Chapter of The Alliance present the 2012 Industry Outlook Forum "Renaissance of the Kenai Peninsula." This event will be held at the Soldotna Sports Center Jan. 26 and Jan. 27. To attend the forum you must register in advance. Johnsen named Senior Vice President for Alaska Communications
Alaska Communications last week announced the appointment of James R. Johnsen as senior vice president of human resources and process transformation.


Johnsen will head up the company's human resources and process transformation functions and serve as a strategic partner in advising senior management in organizational performance improvement, training and development and employee engagement.

Prior to joining Alaska Communications, Johnsen served as senior vice president of administration at Doyon, Limited, an Alaska Native regional corporation. Before that he spent 12 years at the University of Alaska, where he served in several executive roles including vice president of administration, vice president of faculty and staff relations, chief of staff and director of labor relations.

Johnsen is active in the community as a member of the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, a Trustee of the University of Alaska Foundation and in several advisory roles at the University of Alaska, where he also teaches on occasion.

Aquatic farm application period is now open
The Division of Mining, Land, and Water is now accepting aquatic farm lease applications for shellfish operations in state waters. The application period opened on Jan. 1 and ends on April 30.

During the application period, existing farmers may apply for lease amendments. An aquatic farm lease enables the recipient to use state waters to commercially farm Pacific oysters, mussels, littleneck clams, geoduck clams or other shellfish.

"Getting started with Quickbooks 2009" -- Learn to use QuickBooks 2009 as the best  tool to collect and organize your business data so you're prepared when tax time rolls around.  4-Tuesday sessions, from 5 to 9 p.m. covers 10 chapters.
