Wells Fargo names new small business specialist
Wells Fargo has named Ali Woodard as small business specialist in the Soldotna store. She will focus on meeting the unique financial needs of Alaska’s small business owners and managers and helping them succeed financially. She has helped Kenai Peninsula customers succeed financially for more than three years as a teller, service manager and personal banker. Woodard earned a bachelor’s degree in marine biology from Brigham Young University in Idaho.

HEA Energy and Conservation Fairs Scheduled for November
Homer Electric Association is offering its members an opportunity to learn about the latest innovations in energy saving appliances, home improvements, and alternative energy.
On Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., HEA will be hosting its fourth annual Energy and Conservation Fair at the Kenai Middle School in Kenai. The Fair will be repeated Nov. 10, at West Homer Elementary School in Homer.
The Fairs will feature local vendors displaying a variety of energy conservation related products including appliances, recycling tips, construction materials, heating sources, lighting options, and alternative energy information.
In addition to the vendor booths, the Fairs will include a series of workshops in the school libraries. Workshop presenters will include representatives from HiSpeed Gear, Ocean Renewable Power Company, Wisdom and Associates, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, Regulatory Commission of Alaska, Alaska Infrared LLC, and T and T Toyo Services.
A new addition to the Fairs this year is “Louie the Lightning Bug’s Conservation Voyage.” The interactive event for children will feature games and activities with a focus on recycling and energy conservation.
The Fairs, which are a family-oriented, will also feature door prizes, popcorn, hot dogs, refreshments and the announcement of the winners of an energy conservation student contest sponsored by HEA.
Energy and Conservation Fair Gold sponsors this year include Hilcorp Alaska LLC, Touchstone Energy, Stanley Ford, and Tesoro. Silver sponsors are Home Depot, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, Kenai Peninsula Builders Association, HiSpeed Gear, Brown’s Electrical Supply Co., Spenard Builders Supply, Grant Aviation, and Alaska Warm Wood.

The Alaska Small Business Development Center has scheduled seminars in Suite 12 at the Red Diamond Center. QuickBooks 2011 is an introductory tool to collect and organize your business data so you’re prepared for tax time! Beginning: 1-Find your way around QuickBooks; 2-Set up and create a QuickBooks company; 3 and 4-Work with lists and bank accounts; 5-Use other accounts in QuickBooks. Intermediate: Track sales, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and reporting capabilities: 1-Enter sales info; 2-Receive payments and make deposits; 3-Enter and pay bills; 4-Analyze financial data; 5-Additional information. “Recordkeeping for Taxes” ($70) — QuickBooks 2011 Recordkeeping for Taxes is offered on Dec. 11 from 5-9 p.m. or on Dec. 13 from 1-5 p.m. Each class will be in Suite 12 at AK SBDC in the Red Diamond Center. Online registration deadline for both classes is Dec. 7 by 5 p.m.
“Starting A Business” (Free) — Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. If you want to put your business idea to work, attend this 2-hour “Starting a Business” seminar. Bryan Zak will offer helpful resources and cover basic questions to give tools you need to start your own business on the Kenai Peninsula. Bryan will prepare you for a productive relationship with Alaska Small Business Development Center and our partner programs, and explain the value of our free counseling services.
