The Kalifonsky Christian Center, located at Mile 17 Kalifornsky Beach Road, is hosting a Food Drive to benefit the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. “Let’s CAN Hunger” is the theme for this opportunity to give during this Season of Thanksgiving. Donations will be accepted through Nov. 21. You may drop off your donations Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., or at Sunday Services at 10:30 a.m. Contact persons for the event are Jackie Haynes or Mariya Manalli at 283-9452.

Retired United Methodist minister Lucy Barton will lead the service at the Kenai United Methodist Church on Sunday. The scripture for the morning is Mark 13:1-8. For the Beauty of the Earth, We Walk by Faith and Now Thank We All Our God are hymns that will be part of the service. Worship begins at 11 a.m. and will be followed by refreshments in the Fellowship Hall. The church will be hosting a Blue Grass Jam session from 1- 4 p.m. The church is located on the Frontage Road in Kenai. All are welcome to attend.

The Soldotna United Methodist Church, at 158 South Binkley Street, now offers a Food Pantry for citizens in the community who are experiencing food shortages. The Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 11a.m.-2 p.m. for anyone in the area who may need extra help. 

To support these efforts, the church is accepting non-perishable food donations, which may be dropped off at the church any Tuesday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. or Sunday from 9 a.m.-noon. To make monetary donations, mail a check to the address above designating it for the SUMC Food Pantry or drop it by. Clothes Quarters at Our Lady of the Angels Church is open every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the first Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 283-4555.

■ Kids Wednesday Night Discipleship is Wedensdays from 6:30-8 p.m. at Peninsula Grace Brethren Church, mile 19.5 Kalifornsky Beach Road, open to kids ages birth to fifth grade. Free, no preregistration required. For more information, call 907-262-6442.

■ Kid Zone is held every Tuesday that there is school at Peninsula Grace Brethren Church for kids ages birth to preschool and a parent/guardian from 10:30-11:30 a.m. with indoor slides and lots of toys! Free!

■ Christmas for Kids — Grace Lutheran Church and School will host “Christmas for Kids,” a program to share the real meaning of Christmas, from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 15 at the church off K-Beach Road, one block down on Ciechanski Road. Kids ages 3 years old to sixth grade may attend. There will be Bible teaching, singing, arts and crafts, games, and cookie decorating and a 15-minute “Christmas by the Kids” concert for the parents at 11:45 a.m. Drop off the kids and get your Chrismas shopping done! Soldotna Day Aglow will meet every Wednesday at Peninsula Christian Center located in Soldotna. There will be coffee and fellowship at 9:30 a.m., followed by 10 a.m. worship, teaching and prayer. Babysitting provided. Contact Judy Risung at 283-3534.

Classes for anyone interested in the Catholic Church will be held each Wednesday evening at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The classes are held in O’Neill Hall on Redoubt Avenue at 6:30 p.m. Those attending will learn about the teachings of the Church based on the teachings of Jesus Christ to His disciples. This process is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults or RCIA. For more information call Shirley at 262-9654 or Marlys at 262-5542.

Child Evangelism Fellowship offers Good News Clubs at Aurora Borealis Charter School, Mountain View Elementary, Soldotna Elementary, K-Beach Elementary and the Merit Inn. Children are taught values and character qualities through Bible lessons, games, and songs. Snacks and prizes will be provided. All volunteer and staff leaders are screened for child protection. Parents are welcome to attend and are responsible for transportation following the clubs. Permission slips are available in all schools. Calvary Baptist Church in Kenai has started its 2012-13 AWANA year with programs on Sundays at Kenai Middle School, from 5:25-7:15 p.m. Classes available for kids age 3 through grade 6. Please use back entrance. Call 283-4781 for more info.
