Alliance presents industry education forum
The Alaska Support Industry Alliance presents the Kenai Industry Education Forum, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Challenger Learning Center in Kenai. The keynote luncheon speaker is Jim Davidson, a geologist with oil indutsry expertise as well as an avid international mountain climber. Soldotna storefront improvement grants available
The City of Soldotna is now accepting new applications for the 2013 Storefront Improvement Program. Business owners or lessees can apply for a 50-50 matching grant, up to $5,000, to improve the exterior of their business. This year the city is expanding the program so that it is open to all businesses in the Commercial or Limited Commercial zoning districts (not just the Sterling and Kenai Spur Highways).

Homer Electric seeks to fill board seat vacancy
Homer Electric Association Inc. is accepting applications for a vacancy on the Board of Directors for District 3.
Applicants must be a member of Homer Electric Association Inc. and a bona fide resident within the District 3 boundary, which includes portions of the Kasilof area south to Homer and across Kachemak Bay to the Seldovia area.
The term of office will begin after appointment by the Board of Directors and expire in May 2014.
When the term ends, the board seat will then be filled by the membership through the election process at the annual meeting of the members.
Interested applicants for the vacant seat may pick up an application packet at the Homer Electric office in Kenai or Homer. Applications are also available online at www.homerelectric.com.
The deadline to submit applications to Homer Electric for the vacant board seat is Feb. 6 at 5 p.m.

HEA accepting director nominations
Homer Electric Association is accepting nominations from members for a seats on its nine-member Board of Directors.
Three seats across the board’s three districts are up for grabs in this year’s election — one from District 1, which covers Kenai, Nikiski and parts of Soldotna, District 2, which covers Soldotna, Sterling, Kasilof and in District 3, which covers Kasilof, Homer, and Seldovia.
HEA directors are elected by district, with members voting only for the director in their respective district. Those interested in running must complete a candidacy packet that requires 15 signatures gathered from HEA members in the candidate’s district. That packet is available at HEA offices or online at www.homerelectric.com.
The deadline to submit a packet to one of HEA’s offices in Homer or Kenai is 5 p.m., March 1. Ballots will be mailed April 1 and the results will be announced at the utility’s annual meeting at Kenai Central High School on May 1.
