Chambers set schedules

■ On Feb. 13, the Kenai and Soldotna chambers of commerce will host a joint luncheon at the Kenai Visitor Center. A presentation from Dan Fauske of the Alaska Stand Alone Gas Pipeline Project is planned. RSVP to 262-9814 or 283-7989.

Alliance presents industry education reform

The Alaska Support Industry Alliance presents the Kenai Industry Education Forum, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Challenger Learning Center in Kenai. The keynote luncheon speaker is Jim Davidson, a geologist with oil indutsry expertise as well as an avid international mountain climber. The forum also will include updates from local companies and from Washington, D.C. Register at www.alaskaalliance.com.

Soldotna storefront improvement grants available

The City of Soldotna is now accepting new applications for the 2013 Storefront Improvement Program. Business owners or lessees can apply for a 50-50 matching grant, up to $5,000, to improve the exterior of their business. This year the city is expanding the program so that it is open to all businesses in the Commercial or Limited Commercial zoning districts (not just the Sterling and Kenai Spur Highways).

HEA accepting director nominations

Homer Electric Association is accepting nominations from members for a seats on its nine-member Board of Directors.

Three seats across the board’s three districts are up for grabs in this year’s election — one from District 1, which covers Kenai, Nikiski and parts of Soldotna, District 2, which covers Soldotna, Sterling, Kasilof and in District 3, which covers Kasilof, Homer, and Seldovia.

HEA directors are elected by district, with members voting only for the director in their respective district. Those interested in running must complete a candidacy packet that requires 15 signatures gathered from HEA members in the candidate’s district. That packet is available at HEA offices or online at www.homerelectric.com.

The deadline to submit a packet to one of HEA’s offices in Homer or Kenai is 5 p.m., March 1. Ballots will be mailed April 1 and the results will be announced at the utility’s annual meeting at Kenai Central High School on May 1.

Small Business Development Center plans workshops

The Alaska Small Business Development Center has scheduled seminars in Suite 12 at the Red Diamond Center. ■ “Start A Business” Seminar (free) — Soldotna, Feb. 26. The two-hour “Start a Business”seminar will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 26 (register by Feb. 22). Bryan Zak will answer your questions on starting a business on the Kenai Peninsula while preparing you for a productive relationship with Alaska Small Business Development Center and our partner programs. You will learn why you should register for our free counseling services and how to sign up for our various training events. Register via http://aksbdc.ecenterdirect.com and follow steps above.

■ “QuickBooks 2011: Payroll” ($80) — March 21, 1-5 p.m. Alaska SBDC wants to help you to be efficient in tracking your payroll records. Lesson 1 is getting started; Lesson 2 is Doing Payroll with QuickBooks 2011; Lesson 3 is Tracking time, and we include handouts for payroll responsibilities, payroll item types and a list of payroll expenses and liabilities. ■ “QuickBooks 2011: Inventory” ($80) — March 22, 1-5 p.m. Alaska SBDC wants to help you to be efficient in tracking your records so to get an overview of inventory in QuickBooks, practice filling out a PO for items; track the receipt of the inventory items in QuickBooks, to adjust inventory manually or enter stock loss or increase, the create, build and edit inventory assemblies (finished goods) and also to set up and use units of measure. This is all part of the Inventory workshop. Registration and payment deadline is March 15. Go to http://aksbdc.ecenterdirect.com and follow steps above.
