Nash family welcomes son


Lake Randy and Cassandra Hope Nash of Kenai announce the birth of their son, Nolan Murdock Nash, at 7:25 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2012. He weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 20 1/2 inches. He joins sister Madeline. His grandparents are Lee and Ann Nash of Nikiski, Aaron and Alison Williams of Nikiski, and Jaylee Harris of Kenai.

Byrd family grows

Joshua Byrd and Emily Bird-Thornton announce the birth of their son, Ashur Daniel Byrd, at 11:58 p.m. on Dec. 28, 2012 at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. He weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces and measured 21.5 inches. His grandparents are Jonathan and Diana Thornton of Kenai, and Richard and Zetta Byrd of Kasilof. His great-grandparents are Mike and Mary Herndon of Pasco, Wash., and Chuck and Janice Thornton of Soldotna.

Houglum named to President's List at Gonzaga University

Rosemary Houglum, a resident of Soldotna, earned placement on the President’s List at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., for fall semester 2012. Students must earn a 3.7 to 4.0 grade-point average to be listed.

Napolitano named to Dean's List at Ithaca

Phoebe Napolitano, a resident of Kenai and a freshman Health Sciences major, was named to the Dean’s List in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance for the fall 2012 semester at Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y.

Schmitter-Schrier makes Dean's List at Rhodes College

Soldotna resident Noelle B. Schmitter-Schrier was named to the Dean’s List at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., for the 2012 fall semester. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must be enrolled in at least 16 credit hours of academic work and must achieve a semester grade point average of 3.70 or better. Schmitter-Schrier is a graduate of Kenai Central High School.

Events, wedding, engagement and birth submissions may not be older than six months. Wedding anniversary announcements are printed in five-year increments beginning with the 20th.

The Community page is a way to highlight activities and events that happen with a photo. If your group or organization has a photo of an event to share, submit the photo and the following information for print: Who took the photo, who’s in it, when and where it was taken, a brief description of what’s happening, and a name and phone number in case we have questions.

Pet photos run on the Pets page every Tuesday. They can be color or black and white and may include people. Limit one photo per household. They may be e-mailed to, dropped off at the Kenai office or mailed to the Clarion at P.O. Box 3009, Kenai, 99611. A brief explanation of the photo, the pet’s and owner’s names, owner’s address and phone number must be included.
