Chambers set schedules

■ The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce next meets at noon on March 19 at the Soldotna Sports Center. Lunch is $13. A forum with candidates for Soldotna mayor, Nels Anderson and Dave Carey, is scheduled. For more information call 262-9814.

■ The Kenai Chamber of Commerce meets Wednesday at noon at the Kenai Cultural and Visitor Center. An update on Central Peninsula Hospital from CEO Rick Davis is scheduled. RSVP is required. For more information call 283-7989.

Face painting benefits Relay for Life

Denali Alaskan FCU will sponsor a face painting fundraiser to benefit Relay for Life at 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday inside Walmart.

Soldotna storefront improvement grants available

The City of Soldotna is now accepting new applications for the 2013 Storefront Improvement Program. Business owners or lessees can apply for a 50-50 matching grant, up to $5,000, to improve the exterior of their business. This year the city is expanding the program so that it is open to all businesses in the Commercial or Limited Commercial zoning districts. Small Business Development Center plans workshops

The Alaska Small Business Development Center has scheduled seminars in Suite 12 at the Red Diamond Center. To register online, go to: http://aksbdc.ecenterdirect.com, click training events, go to Centers Location, select Kenai Peninsula/South West, click Browse: find seminar, click Sign Up and complete registration.

■ QuickBooks 2011 Beginners & Intermediate 4 night classes ($300) — The QB2011 four-evening workshops are scheduled for March 19, 26, April 2 and 9 from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night. Lessons 1 to 11 will be presented by Certified trainer in Suite 12 in the Red Diamond Center. Payroll or Inventory are separate classes. Online registration and payment deadline is March 15. Attendees must have typing and basic computer skills. Bring a thumb drive to download each class and practice after class.

■ “QuickBooks 2011: Payroll” ($80) — March 21, 5-9 p.m. (note time change) Alaska SBDC wants to help you to be efficient in tracking your payroll records. Lesson 1 is getting started; Lesson 2 is Doing Payroll with QuickBooks 2011; Lesson 3 is Tracking time, and we include handouts for payroll responsibilities, payroll item types and a list of payroll expenses and liabilities. Registration and payment deadline is March 15.

■ “QuickBooks 2011: Inventory” ($80) — March 22, 5-9 p.m. Alaska SBDC wants to help you to be efficient in tracking your records so to get an overview of inventory in QuickBooks, practice filling out a PO for items; track the receipt of the inventory items in QuickBooks, to adjust inventory manually or enter stock loss or increase, the create, build and edit inventory assemblies (finished goods) and also to set up and use units of measure. This is all part of the Inventory workshop. Registration and payment deadline is March 15.

■ Beginner’s FaceBook ($65) — March 19. 1:15 to 4 p.m. The time has passed when Facebook was a “good idea” for businesses to try. It’s now essential to your inbound marketing strategy. Thing is, Facebook keeps changing how to set up Facebook business pages — both on the large scale with the rollout of Facebook Timeline, and on a smaller scale with new features that are rolling out all the time. So, take a hands-on approach in our Beginner’s Facebook with KPTMC’s Jhasmine Lamb, who will familiarize you with Facebook and help you explore your personal profile while trouble-shooting preliminary problems as you build your Facebook page. March 11 is deadline for online registration and payment.
