Ron Winger and Teea McBride of Kenai announce the birth of their son, Kass Nicholas Joseph Winger, at 1:25 p.m. Jan. 25, 2013. He weighed 7 pounds, 8.6 ounces and measured 19 1/2 inches. He joins sibling Lyman Ellis Gordon McBride. His grandparents are Malcolm McBride of Kenai, Kathy Winger of Soldotna, Sherry McBride of Reno, Ronald Winger of Las Vegas, and Grandma Genny Williamson of Kenai. His great-grandmother is Joanna Glaves of Soldotna.


Dylan and Janinne Price of Kasilof announce the birth of their daughter, TalaLlynn Grace Price, at 7:24 p.m. Feb. 25, 2013 at Woman’s Way Midwifery in Soldotna. She weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces. She joins brother Gabriel and sister Anna Marie.

U.S. Marine Private Michael Erickson graduated from basic training at MCRD in San Diego on Jan. 18, 2013. Pvt. Erickson completed an intense 13-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Marine Core values, physical fitness, basic warfare principles and weaponry. Pvt. Erickson has recently completed additional infantry training at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and will continue his training in the military police field in San Antonio, Texas before being transferred to his first duty station. He is a 2012 graduate of Soldotna High School. He is the son of Larry and Rachel Erickson of Soldotna. He is the brother of SMS student Molly Erickson and Alaska Air National Guardsman Senior Airman Emily Kenny (Erickson).

Riana Boonstra, a seventh-grade student at Aurora Borealis Charter School in Kenai, was named the first place state winner in the National Patriot’s Pen Contest sponsored locally by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Jerry V. Horn Post 10046 and the Ladies Auxiliary for her essay on the theme “What I Would Tell America;s Founding Fathers.” Riana was awarded an additional $325, and her essay will be sent on to the national level competition.

Events, wedding, engagement and birth submissions may not be older than six months. Wedding anniversary announcements are printed in five-year increments beginning with the 20th.
