Air Force Airman Ashley B. Pharris graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Pharris is the daughter of Lyniveta Nelson of Soldotna, and Richard Locher of Haiku, Hawaii.

She is a 2012 graduate of Skyview High School, Soldotna, Alaska.

An Air Force Airman from Nikiski was part of a crew awarded for their meritorious service. The PACAF 2012 Brig. Gen. Ross G. Hoyt Award was awarded to the 909th ARS “Rummy 21” crew, which is Capt. Jessica Gould, Capt. Skyler Smith, and Staff Sgt. Chad Holloway, for not only safely recovering three F-16 aircraft and crews but also for helping save the life of a pilot forced to eject into freezing waters.

Holloway is a 2005 graduate of Nikiski Middle-High School. He is stationed at Kadena Air Base in Japan.
