MyKenna Foster, 11, of Soldotna, has been selected to represent Alaska at the 2013 Miss American Preteen Pageant at Disney World in Florida in November. She will compete for the title of Miss America Preteen and cash awards, prizes and scholarships.

 

MyKenna is the daughter of Jason and Kimberly Foster of Soldotna.

Walker Boyle of Kenai graduated cum laude on May 26, 2013, from Amherst College in Amherst, Mass. Boyle, who majored in Music, entered Amherst after graduating from Nikiski Middle-High School. He is the son of Debra J. Boyle and Owen M. Boyle of Kenai.

Army Pvt. Mason J. Kanakis has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Kanakis is the son of Gary Kanakis of Soldotna, and Michelle Ellison of Grants Pass, Ore. He is a 2012 graduate of Grants Pass High School.

Air Force Airman Jefferson D. Klapak graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Klapak is the son of Joseph and Tina Klapak of Anchorage. He is a 2010 graduate of Ninilchik High School.
