Elkes welcome Grand Exalted Ruler

The Soldotna Elks Lodge No. 2706 was honored to welcome Grand Exalted Ruler Millard Pickering and the First Lady of Elkdom Susanne to the Lodge on August 26. The national offices for the Elks are located in Chicago and GER Pickering’s home Lodge is in Sapaula, Okla. He and Mrs. Pickering travel extensively throughout the year visiting local lodges in various states. Upon leaving Soldotna the GER will travel and visit the Kenai, Homer and Kodiak Elks Lodges. During his travels in Alaska he is accompanied by Roger True, Past Grand Exalted Ruler and State of Alaska Sponsor. The Alaska State Elks Association President Janet Johnson and Washington State Elks President Larry Spencer also visited. The Grand Exalted Ruler was given a tour of the Soldotna Lodge by Exalted Ruler Larry Lawrence and that was followed with a seafood dinner. GER Pickering also received a donation from the Soldotna Lodge in the amount of $1,000 for the Elks National Veteran’s Memorial. The following day the Grand ER and his entourage were treated to a morning of silver salmon fishing on the Kenai River.
