Kenai United Methodist Church hosts guests speaker


The Kenai United Methodist Church is hosting a guest speaker on Sunday. Jessie Lobdell’s message is “Return to God.” The morning worship service begins at 11:30 a.m. The church is located at 607 Frontage Road next to the Boys and Girls Club. All are welcome to attend. Basement sale to benefit malaria efforts

Every 60 seconds, malaria claims a life in Africa. The United Methodist Church is part of the battle to end preventable deaths by malaria in Africa through their Imagine No More Malaria campaign. Working in partnership with communities in Africa, United Methodists are focusing on raising funds to improve prevention, treatment, education and communications. The local Kenai United Methodist Church is holding a Basement Sale Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to aid in this effort. Soldotna Church of Christ serves up dinner

The Church of Christ in Soldotna invites everyone to join them for a free dinner on Wednesday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Dinner will be chili, cornbread and salad. Dessert will also be served. Funny River church plans gospel meeting

The Funny River Road Church of Christ (mile 1/4) will be hosting a gospel meeting with guest speaker Jared Hagan from Colorado Springs, Colorado starting Oct. 6 and running every weeknight through Oct. 11. Sunday services are 10 a.m. and again Sunday night at 6 p.m. Services start on the weeknights at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. All are welcome to attend.

Calvary Baptist hosts AWANA club

Calvary Baptist Church in Kenai is offering AWANA for kids ages 3 through 6th grade. AWANA ( is an international kids club. Each week, participants will memorize Bible verses, play games, hear Bible lessons, and earn rewards. Financial Peace at Nikiski Nazarene

Sterling Pentecostal Church celebrates 50th Anniversary

Sterling Pentecostal Church is celebrating its 50th anniversary with services September 19-22. The service schedule will be:

Kenneth and Louise French began services in Sterling on September 12, 1963. The church quickly grew with many new converts, especially young people. They served for over thirteen years and then turned the work over to Ron and Dixie Cole, who also served for just over thirteen years. Mitch and Alicia Glover arrived in July of 1990 to assume the pastorate. Please join in celebrating this event with the Glovers and the church as they reach this landmark. The church is located on Swanson River Road and Entrada.

Learn about essential oils

Sterling church hosts AWANA program

Sterling Baptist Church is starting an AWANA program this year, every Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. The club will meet at Sterling Baptist Church. Children 3 years old through sixth grade are welcome. Call Sterling Baptist for more information at 262-4711.

Grace Lutheran hosts school choice presentation

If you want better school choices for your children, please come to an informational briefing on how you can help your child. Grace Lutheran Church, one block off K-Beach on Ciechanski Road, will host a presentation on School Choice and You on Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. Former mayor of Anchorage and Speaker of the Alaska House of Representatives, Tom Fink, will be presenting and fielding any questions.

Classes for anyone interested in the Catholic Church will be held each Wednesday evening at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Soldotna starting Sept. 25. The classes will be held in O’Neill Hall, 238 W. Redoubt Avenue at 6 p.m. each Wednesday of the school year. During the year those attending will learn about the teachings of the Church based on the teachings of Jesus Christ to His disciples. Catholic Churches to hold RCIA classes for Inquirers

The Kenai United Methodist Church provides a food pantry for those in need every Monday from noon to 3:00 p.m. The Methodist Church is located on the Kenai Spur Highway next to the Boys and Girls Club. Clothes 4 U program resumes

First Baptist Church Soldotna, located at 159 S. Binkley Street, is re-opening its Clothes 4 U program. Beginning Aug. 24, it will be open on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. All clothing and shoes are free to the public.

Food Pantry open weekly at Soldotna church

The Soldotna Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for residents in our community who may be experiencing food shortages. The Food Pantry is located at the Soldotna United Methodist Church at 158 South Binkley Street. 

Non-perishable food items or monetary donations may be dropped off at the church Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Thank you for your support.

The Way Café serving dinner

The Way Café, is located at the Merit Inn, 260 South Willow St. in Kenai, will continue serving free meals to youth 18 and younger from 5:30-8 p.m. Monday to Friday. Meals for adults are $3. For more information, call 907-283-7672.
