Halloween and Harvest festivals

■ A Halloween carnival sponsored by Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church will take place 5-9 p.m. Friday and 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Redemptorist Center, 222 West Redoubt Avenue, Soldotna.


■ The Kenai Eagles 3525 will hold its annual children’s Halloween Carnival for children 10 and under. Please join us in costume for a boo-u-tifully great time Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. or until supplies last.

■ The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will feature its Spooky Season event Saturday. The Environmental Education Center will be set up as a drop-in discovery room with hands on activites from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to dispel many common phobias and fears people have such as bats, spiders, insects, snakes, owls the dark, the night sky and more. A one-quarter mile spooky trail will be set up from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. It will be lit with luminaries and along the trail will be stations where participants can learn more fun facts about owls, bats, ravens and get to look at the stars through a telescope. The event is not an event to come in costume, it is not meant to scare anyone and candy will not be given out, For more information, call Michelle at 907-260-2839. Registration is not required.

■ The Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula will host Trunk or Treat, a free event, held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the clubhouse in Kenai.

■ North Peninsula Recreation is hosting a 5-kilometer costume run Saturday on the North Peninsula Recreation Trails. All ages welcome; prizes for the best costume. Race starts at 11 a.m. at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center. Support the food driver with your race entry of canned food. All food collected will go to Nikiksi families in need. ■ Star of the North Lutheran Church is having their annual Harvest Festival at 6 p.m. on Saturday at 216 North Forest Drive in Kenai. Call 283-4153 for more information. Activities include lots of games such as apple bobbing, darts, bean bag toss and a cupcake walk.

■ The annual Nikiski North Star Elementary PTA Fall Carnival will be held on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at the school. See your neighbors and have fun with your families in a safe, fun environment. Some of the fun will include kiddie games, funky hair, face painting, costume contest for all ages, cake walk, trick or treat alley, lots of prizes and a concession stand. This is one of PTA’s largest fundraisers of the year and the money raised is used to help fund activities for our students.

■ Tsalteshi Trails Association will hold its annual Spook Night event Sunday at the trails behind Skyview High School. Advance registration is available online at www.tsalteshi.org. In-person registration will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the trail head behind Skyview. A costume contest for kids, adults and dogs will be held at 5 p.m. The Trick-or-Treat Trail for kids ages 10 and younger will be open from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Walk this one-kilometer loop and play games to get a treat at each station, sponsored by area businesses and organizations. A 5-kilometer Zombie Run for older kids and adults begins at 5:30 p.m. The fun run is open to dogs, but they must be leashed. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes and fastest runners. The cost for the Trick-or-Treat Trail is $10 each for the first two children, then $5 each additional child up to six kids per family. Entry in the Zombie Run is $30 per person, with a $5 discount for those in costume, and an additional $5 discount for current TTA members (membership may be updated on the TTA website). ■ The third annual kids harvest carnival will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Peninsula Grace Brethren Church at mile 19.5 along K-Beach Road. There will be hotdogs and apple cider, games, candy, face painting, costume contest for grades 5 and under, a bake sale, and a puppet show to finish off the evening. Admittance is free. Scary or inappropriate consumes are discouraged.

■ North Peninsula Recreation’s seventh annual Strut Your Mutt Howl’oween Dog Costume Contest will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Nikiski Community recreation Center. Dogs must be people- and dog-friendly and on a leash at all times. For more information call 776-8800.

■ The merchants at the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna welcome everyone to come to a Halloween Carnival on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. There will be games, prizes, candy and a light show.

■ The Nikiski Community Trick or Treat Alley is Thursday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. inside the Nikiski Community Recreation Center. Admission is free. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. For more information, call 776-8800.

■ On Thursday from 5-7 p.m. the Kenai Elks Lodge No. 2425 will be hosting their annual Spooktacular event. There will be games, prizes, candy, food, and a costume contest ages 1 to 12.
