A Ten Thousand Villages Fair Trade Sale will take place from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Soldotna United Methodist Church, 158 S. Binkley, behind Safeway in Soldotna. Fair Trade certification ensures that farmers and craftspersons received a fair price and strictly prohibits slave and child labor. The sale also features Divine Chocolate that makes you feel as good as it tastes and 100 percent Natural Hope Soap, handmade in Thailand.
For those who have lost a loved one recently, the holidays can be a difficult time. An Evening of Remembrance will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 222 West Redoubt Avenue, Soldotna. Come for prayer, singing and a candlelight memorium.
It’s Christmas cookie planning time again for the Apostolic Assembly of Jesus Christ Church. Assorted Christmas cookies will be for sale by pre-order only. The cost is $5 per dozen. Calvary Baptist Church in Kenai is offering AWANA for kids ages 3 through 6th grade. AWANA (www.awana.org) is an international kids club. The Soldotna Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for residents in our community who may be experiencing food shortages. The Food Pantry is located at the Soldotna United Methodist Church at 158 South Binkley Street.
Non-perishable food items or monetary donations may be dropped off at the church Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Thank you for your support.
First Baptist Church Soldotna, located at 159 S. Binkley Street, is re-opening its Clothes 4 U program. Beginning Aug. 24, it will be open on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. All clothing and shoes are free to the public.
The Kenai United Methodist Church provides a food pantry for those in need every Monday from noon to 3:00 p.m. The Methodist Church is located on the Kenai Spur Highway next to the Boys and Girls Club.
