Alexi Nicole Beeson graduated Summa Cum Laude from Austin College in Sherman, Texas, with majors in Business Administration and Spanish and a minor in Exercise and Sport Science. Beeson was the Kidd Medal recipient, voted on by faculty and recognizing her as one of the top two students in her graduating class. She is the daughter of Jim Beeson and Jill Sessions

Ninilchik resident Sarah Cobb was among the nearly 800 students who graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina earlier this month.

Cobb graduated Cum Laude with a BSN in Nursing.

Several Kenai Peninsula students were named to the Dean’s List for grades achieved during the Spring 2014 semester at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina:

■ Sarah Cobb of Ninilchik, a Senior Nursing major;

■ Caleb Daniels of, a Senior Business (Concentration in Trades) major;

■ Joanna Daniels of Ninilchik, a Sophomore Graphic Design major;

■ Esther Knox of Ninilchik, a Sophomore Accounting major;

■ Carla Pherson of Ninilchik, a Junior Piano Pedagogy major.

To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a 3.0 GPA.

Kenai Chapter M of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) is proud to present the $1500 Scholarship for 2014-15 to Andrea Ramos Cortes, from Kenai. Andrea has completed her first year at Kenai Peninsula College. Her goal is to become a physician. She volunteers at the hospital in the physical therapy unit and also works at a local restaurant.

Tommy Honer has been selected as a Fulbright Scholar for the 2014-2015 academic year and will be traveling to Germany to work, study, and foster intercultural exchange. Tommy graduated this year from the University of Alaska Anchorage with a German/English double major and leadership honors. In addition to the Fulbright Scholarship he received the 2014 German Learning Opportunities Website-GLOW Award for his contributions to promoting the German language and culture both at the university and in the community, 2014 UAA Student Diversity Award, 2013 Outstanding German Student at UAA by the Alaska Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German, and 2013 Seawolf Student Leader award.

Vanessa Lynn Dukowitz recently received her B.A. Degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences, cum laude, with a Minor in Biology, from the University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque. Vanessa is a 2010 graduate of Kenai High School. Her parents are Richard and Susan Dukowitz of Kenai.

Kelsie Leaf of Kenai has been named to the President’s List for the spring 2014 semester at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. The President’s List includes full-time students who achieve a 4.0 grade point average on a four-point scale.

Russell Dukowitz, of Kenai, graduated from Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota. Dukowitz earned a Associate of Arts degree.

Events, wedding, engagement and birth submissions may not be older than six months. Wedding anniversary announcements are printed in five-year increments beginning with the 20th.

The Community page is a way to highlight activities and events that happen with a photo. If your group or organization has a photo of an event to share, submit the photo and the following information for print: Who took the photo, who’s in it, when and where it was taken, a brief description of what’s happening, and a name and phone number in case we have questions.
