Annual Senior picnic

The annual Kenai Peninsula Senior Picnic will be held on June 27 at noon. It will at the Kenai Park Strip in Kenai. All seniors from the Kenai Peninsula are invited to an afternoon of fun and sunshine. There is no cost but any contributions would be much appreciated. Contact you local senior center for details.

2014 Salmon Classic KickOff Event

On June 28 at 5 p.m., the Sterling Senior Center is hosting a Prime Rib Dinner to kick-off Our Annual Salmon Classic Fundraising event. Seating is limited, so plan on purchasing your tickets early. Tickets ($25 per person) are available at The Sterling Senior front desk or Pull Tab Store beween 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Gun show

The Sterling Senior Center annual gun show will be held this year on July 26th and 27th from 10:00 am to 4:00pm. This has been a very successful event in past years and promises to be even better this year. There will be approximately thirty tables available for vendors at a cost of $50 per table. Admission to the show will be $5.00 per person. As usual, there will be food available with pastries and a lunch menu. Two firearms, a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun and a Desert Eagle .45acp hand gun, have been donated for the raffle. Raffle tickets are now available at the center. Summer bazaar

The Summer Bazaar, Bakesale and Quilt show will be held on July 25 and 26, from 10am- 4pm. The bazaar will feature beautiful crafts made by vendors from throughout the Peninsula. The bakesale will be homemade items for everyone to enjoy. Pat Reese will arrange for displaying some of the best looking quilts from the awesome quilters in the area.


Not so Golden Globes

Meryl Streep has played many roles in her long career and holds the record for the most Academy Award nominations of any actor. Among her portrayals was British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. At the Golden Globe Awards Sunday night, Streep behaved as if she actually had been elected to high office, entitling her to mount a high horse.

What is the Sesquicentennial?

Sesquicentennial is a jawbreaker word, too big even for Scrabble, but it does have a noble ring to it. Its meaning is far simpler: 150th anniversary. Any anniversary worth such a big name also is worth a good party, and this time the party is for Alaska: 2017 marks 150 years since the United States purchased this Great Land from Russia. Read more
