Kenai Senior Center activities for July

■ Friday, July 4 — Join us at Kenai’s July 4 Parade and Festivities. Look for our vendor booth where we’ll be selling the best homemade pie (by the slice or the whole pie) Kenai has to offer! You’ll also see us in the Parade!


■ Thursday, July 10 — Forget Me Not Band will be performing during lunch.

■ Each Friday at 11:30 a.m. — Sing Along Time before lunch

■ Tuesday, July 15 at 11:30 a.m. — Cooper Landing Float Trip - $66 (Includes transportation and float trip) – Bring a sack lunch or a lunch ticket for a sack lunch from the kitchen. Must sign up and prepay by July 8th. Call the front desk for additional information 283-8211.

■ Tuesday, July 15 — Family Caregiver Support Group meets at 1 p.m. in the Solarium

■ Tuesday, July 15 — Just for Fun Event for adults with disabilities - This event is designed to provide a project for the adults who are cared for by the attendees of the Family Caregiver Support Group.

■ Wednesday, July 16 — Birthday Lunch at 11:30 a.m.

■ Friday, July 18 — Polka Dot Dance, Featuring Alaska Button Box Gang from Anchorage (sponsored by Peak Oilfield Services) cost is $5 and a finger food to share. We are pleased to host the Alaska Button Box Gang and encourage ALL to attend, Dancers and Spectators. They are a class act! This is a family friendly event.

■ Tuesday, July 22 — Mystery Drive with Steve at 1:30 p.m. Take a drive and discover the Alaska just around the corner. Ice cream stops highly likely.

■ Wednesday, July 23 — National Vanilla Ice Cream Day – we’ll be making our own for lunch.

■ Friday, July 25 — We’re going Garage Salin’ 9 a.m.-noon. Call the front desk for additional information.

■ Tuesday, July 29 — Missy’s Pie Making Class 8:30 a.m. sign up on the bulletin board.

■ Wednesday, July 30 — National Mutt Day – Mutts on Parade. Bring in your precious animals to show off. Awards will be given and treats for all attending whether you’re on 2 or 4 legs. 10 a.m.

■ Conversational Spanish: Mondays — 1 p.m.

■ General Exercise: Monday / Wednesday / Friday — 9 a.m.

■ Growing Strong Strength Training Class: Monday / Wednesday / Friday — 10 a.m.

■ Line Dancing: Monday / Thursday — 10 a.m. at the Kenai Recreation Center (Please stop by the KSC to sign up for Beginning Line Dancing)

■ Tai-Chi: Tuesday / Thursday — 10 a.m.

■ Zumba Gold: Tuesday / Thursday — 2 p.m. — donation suggested

■ Knitting — 1 p.m. Fridays

■ Ceramics — 1 p.m. Mondays

■ Wednesday, July 2 and16 — Social Security virtual office: 9 a.m.-noon. The Kenai Senior is the venue to talk to the Anchorage Social Security Office. This is a first come first serve service. A signup sheet will be available when you arrive at the KSC. No appointments and no age limits.

Community Meals are served Monday – Friday from 11:30 a.m. – 1p unless otherwise noted. Our mission at the Kenai Senior Center is to serve as a community focal point for senior services where adults 60-plus come together to engage in opportunities for dignity and personal growth. Please call (907-283-4156) or stop by our facility (361 Senior Court, Kenai AK 99611) anytime during regular operating hours (8 a.m.-4 p.m.) – Monday – Friday.

The Sterling Senior Center annual gun show will be held this year on July 26-27 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This has been a very successful event in past years and promises to be even better this year. There will be approximately thirty tables available for vendors at a cost of $50 per table. Admission to the show will be $5.00 per person. As usual, there will be food available with pastries and a lunch menu. Two firearms, a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun and a Desert Eagle .45acp hand gun, have been donated for the raffle. Raffle tickets are now available at the center. To reserve a table, please contact Bill Bailey at 260-3725 or the Senior Center at 262-6808.

The Summer Bazaar, Bakesale and Quilt show will be held on July 25-26, from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. The bazaar will feature beautiful crafts made by vendors from throughout the Peninsula. The bakesale will be homemade items for everyone to enjoy. Pat Reese will arrange for displaying some of the best looking quilts from the awesome quilters in the area.
