Parish celebrates pastor's ordination anniversary

Members and visitors of St. Luke Lutheran Church (UAC) celebrated the 10-year anniversary of Rev. Tim Tolar’s ordination, as well as his birthday, on August 3.

In April 2004, Rev. Tolar was called by God, through the congregation at Star of the North Lutheran Church, to serve as their overseer and pastor. After graduating from the LCMS seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in May 2004, Rev. Tolar and his wife traveled to Alaska, arriving in July 2004.

Rev. Tolar was ordained at Star of the North Lutheran Church on August 1, 2004. In 2008, Rev. Tolar became a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Diocese of North America.

That same year, God called Rev. Tolar, through the body of Christ at St. Luke Lutheran Church, to serve as their shepherd and pastor, wherein he was installed by Bishop James Heiser.

As to thoughts on his ministry, Pastor Tolar said, “The Lord has built up His bride the church in ways I would have never dreamed, including opening doors for me as a commercial fisherman and an emergency responder here on the Peninsula. My joining ELDoNA has also been used by Christ to build a sense of unity in doctrine, spirit, and body unsurpassed by anything I have ever experienced in a religious body. This has resulted in the members of St. Luke truly being a family in and through Christ Jesus. It has been a wondrous journey, and I look forward to seeing what and how the Lord will work through all of us here at St. Luke and her far-reaching missions in the coming years.”

Since 2008, St. Luke Lutheran Church has started two missions, one in Homer and one in Fairbanks. St. Luke Lutheran Church is located at Mile 16 of the Kenai Spur Highway in the log building that a lot of locals know as the former Hitching Post restaurant. Divine Services are held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning, except for the first Sunday of each month, when Rev. Tolar travels to the Fairbanks’ mission. Except for the first Sunday of each month, a Matins service is held at 9:00 a.m., followed by a family Bible study at 9:30 a.m. On the first Sunday of each month, the congregation does a Küster Small Catechism Recitation.
