Nikiski Middle-High School Valedictorians

Ari Daniel Bennett

Ari Bennett Nikiski High School Valedictorian, was born in Soldotna to Tom and Robin Bennett, and has lived in Nikiski his entire life. He has a 4.12 grade point average and is the Senior Class President and a member of National Honor Society. Ari is a National Merit Scholar, and will be attending Stanford University in the fall. He enjoys designing and building complicated projects, which will be incorporated into his major as a mechanical engineer.

Sebastian Alva Eugene Strickland

Sebastian Strickland, Nikiski High School Valedictorian, was born in Norfolk Virginia. He has lived in Nikiski with his parents Scot and Carol Strickland since first grade. He is a member of National Honor Society and is UA Scholar. He will be graduating with a 4.12 grade point average.  In his spare time he likes to go running, hiking and camping. His favorite subjects are math and science, which he hopes will assist him at UAF, where he plans to earn his mechanical engineering degree.


Board of Education sees preliminary budget

With still unknown budget allocations from the state and borough for next year, the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District’s Board of Education is working on a budget with a projected deficit of approximately $3 million .
